Her husband was diagnosed with melanoma and in her sadness she turned to God for comfort. Initially “I prayed every day for that miracle of him being healed” she said. But as time went by and her husband’s condition deteriorated, she found herself having to change her prayer and just trust God. “He got so sick that I wanted him to have relief, and I asked my sister if she would put his name, and our case, on Pray for Me.” The minister at her church provided her with support, and reminded her that God was with her throughout her ordeal. “I just asked him to pray that I’d have enough strength every day to do the nursing, or to do what was needed, and I did.”
Her family rallied around her and her sick husband. Amongst the sad situation, she recalls God’s grace and blessings were evident along the journey. Her first prayer for her husband to survive the intricate surgery was answered. God provided her with strength to nurse her husband. One of the biggest blessings she remembers with fondness was when her son who was studying in Germany at the time, was able to fly over to Australia to be by his father’s bedside and to support his mother and sister. The son flew back to Germany and his father went to be with the Lord two days later.
These were blessings and touches of grace from God and she is assured God gave her exactly what she needed. “I suppose you know the story of the patchwork quilts? You need the darks as well as the light colours to make it an attractive quilt. And we need that in our lives too.”
