God’s promises are not always delivered immediately.  Often we lose hope because it is not eventuating as quickly as we would like.  Have you ever thought that maybe part of the benefits of that promise, is on how it may transform us, or those around us? This story demonstrates how God is always faithful and He delivers on His promises. God’s promises never fail, we just need to obey, pray and be patient.

A woman struggling with the challenges of being married to a man who was not a Christian, was reminded of a favorite Bible scripture. She explains how “We have divine weapons to tear down any strongholds or pretension and make it obedient to Christ.”  This verse touched and inspired her  and with the verse in mind, every night she would lay hands on her husband and prayed over him while he slept.

One day, God gave her a promise. “When your husband is born again, then you will have a son.” She shared this promise in confidence with only a couple of friends. Several years went by and God’s promise seemed very distant and she started to think they would have no more children.

During a church camp, which her husband attended, God’s love and fellowship came over him and brought the husband into the body of Christ.

The woman fell pregnant again, but by this time, God’s promise had been forgotten. When their son Joshua was born, it took one of the friends to remind the woman of what God had promised to her all those years ago by reminding the woman and saying, “There he is. It’s Joshua. You’re holding him.”

Funnily enough, It was the woman’s husband who named their child. The husband had no idea that Joshua means “God is my salvation” and his middle name, Jordan, means “flowing down”. Quite an appropriate name “for a child of promise.”

What do you do while you wait for God’s promises?

Keep your faith active and stay vigilant with God’s spiritual armour.
